We mourn the loss of Diana Fuentes, a longtime champion of journalism and freedom of information, last Friday.

Fuentes, who passed away unexpectedly in Washington, D.C., had participated in Sunshine Fest last week, one of two dozen experts at a special FOI convening Sunday (pictured), and then moderating a panel Tuesday on FOI journalism.

She was executive director of Investigative Reporters and Editors for the past five years, and a longtime journalist from Texas. She was active in the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and the San Antonio chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, she was just a darn nice person. She will be missed.
