Brechner hiring outreach coordinator to promote FOI

The Brechner Freedom of Information Project seeks an energetic and passionate individual to lead public outreach and education in freedom of information (FOI) to advance the public’s right to know. The new full-time position would be entrusted with three main missions: 

  1. Coordinate national Sunshine Week, including public communications to promote FOI through social media, written releases, website updates and multimedia. This may include coordination of a conference and other events, as well as facilitating a year-round network of organizations promoting access to information. 
  1. In coordination with the College’s communication team, promote the right to know, by producing a monthly newsletter, updating website content, posting to social media, and creating other media materials for journalists and the public.  
  1. Provide education in FOI, including online workshops and classes, website training materials, proposing and conducting sessions at conferences, working exhibitor tables at conferences, measuring impact, overseeing translation of materials into Spanish, and coordinating FOI educational events, such as the annual Brechner FOI Award. This position may also manage student assistants or interns to help with promotional efforts.  

Applicants should have at least a bachelor’s degree and six years of relevant experience, particularly in public communications through professional media writing and multimedia – bonus if you have a master’s, doctorate or law degree. Must be a strong presenter. Fluency in Spanish or the ability to oversee translation of training materials into Spanish is preferred. Would be based at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Salary range is $60,000-$70,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
