Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum joined FOI Summit participants during an award luncheon on the second day of conference activities.

McCollum vowed to protect Florida's constitutional right of access during his address on Friday, Sept. 21. As part of these efforts, McCollum announced he will be working hand-in-hand with The Brechner Center to develop The Government Accountability Project.

The goal of the project will be to get more pertinent, government information on the Web, such as government budgets and contracts.

"There's no reason why budget information from every county can't be posted and made readily available on the Internet," McCollum said.

McCollum assured Summit attendees that his office is always ready to help if a government entity tries to deny access to publi crecords and ignores Florida's Government in the Sunshine law.

"We take it very seriously," McCollum said. "Open government is a great cause."
